Hah! You thought it was going to be a pair of socks!! I recently spoke with Jen Lucas about her new book Sock-Yarn Shawls for an upcoming podcast. I loved the book and Jen’s enthusiasm got me excited to decide on one of her shawls for our trip to the east coast this weekend.

Fiber Optic Yarns - Foot Notes A

Kimber Baldwin, of Fiber Optics Yarn, has a collection of her Footnotes sock yarns that she calls Batik. The technique produces a one-of-a-kind, 4 oz. skein of sock yarn. There are no dye lots so what you have is all you are going to get. There may be subsequent skeins with the same colorway name but they are not going to match.

Fiber Optic Yarns - Foot Notes B

The uniqueness of my two, completely different, skeins has me completely intimidated. Who knows, I may choose another of Jen’s shawls for the second skein.

Oh, I really like this type of dye on the yarn. It is quite popular right now, alone with the highlighted tone-on-tone colors. Would you be able to show us a video on how to dye yarn in this way? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
