In Loving Memory

Xena_1

Xena has been a member of the Knit Picks family for as long as I can remember – serving as our iconic (and epically cute!) mascot, yarn ambassador and occasional actress.

Xena was also an extremely loyal companion, only straying from Kelley’s side to stroll the office and check out the day’s activities. She loved apples, being wrapped up in blankets and snuggling with Kelley as she was knitting away. And although Xena is no longer with us, we will always cherish our memories and look back fondly at her time with us.

In honor of Xena, we’ve collected a few photos from throughout the years for everyone to enjoy.

I am sending up a prayer that Xena will have a special place on the Great Couch near my Pom, Wag, my own “sweetest of all possible sweet dogs.” It sounds like she had the same place in your heart!

Dear Kelley and staff, So sorry to hear Xena has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I don’t know how old she was, but I can’t remember Knit Picks without her and that’s a long time. She will be missed.

What breed was this adorable pet?

  7. Karen / October 23, 2013

So sorry about Xena. If she gave even half as much love as my gang of three, that was a lot of love. When you lose that unconditional love, it leaves a hole that is hard to fill. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

    Dear Kelly,
I am so sad to hear of Xena. She was loved by everyone and it was always a joy to see you two interact. She was always a part of the team. I remember helping you unroll a tube of paper onto the ground, and Xena was right there to help; she used her little puffy paws to hold down part of the paper on the edge. She was so bright, so adorable, she brought so much joy to everyone. My girls especially loved Xena and will always remember your kindness. A few days ago, I had just found a photo of Rachel and Xena and it made us smile. Thinking of you and staff. Warm Regards.

    • Deniece / October 19, 2013

I do not have appropriate words to express my loss. She was a CUTIE ! You will see her all the time, find yourself calling her name !
We had an orange sable Pom, Sam, which we had to put to sleep 2 1/2 yrs ago . I would see other dogs that looked like Sam.
Their unconditional love is “just that ” Unconditional, loving you no matter what ! I call our Blue Merle Pom, “Spirit ” , “Sam “, a lot. Spirit just comes running !!! Their Kisses and Barks are very special ways of talking to us, and definitely miss them.

It is so hard to lose your companions, and I hope that another little pomeranian will perhaps find a home with Kelly… there’s always another out there hoping for a loving pet person.

I’m so sorry to hear about Xena. We have a tiny toy chocalate poodle who doesn’t know she’s a dog, because we never told her. She’s the heart of our house. We found out about a year ago that she is diabetic and needs two insulin shots daily. Cocoa is a loved member of our family and I’d be lost if she wasn’t here.

It is amazing how animals catch our love and become part if the family. I always loved hearing about Xena and knit picks. My thoughts go out to you, and I am so glad I was able to share in a small part of this fluffy mascots life!

  79. Tracy Shook / October 18, 2013

So very sorry to learn of Xena’s passing. It is always hard to lose our beloved furry, four-pawed, friends. Having owned and lost many animals in my lifetime, it is always a tearful time when they go, and it never gets easier. Still, I can’t imagine life without them, and they add SO much love and happiness to my life, so animals will always be a part of my life. Is there another mascot waiting in the wings presently, or possibly in the future? They are all individuals and can never really be replaced, but the love of another can be brought in. 🙂

  80. Ruthi K / October 18, 2013

My heart goes out to all, especially Kelly, my Abby was the same but Ebony version and not a day goes by without some memory of her

  86. PamiE from Gorst / October 17, 2013

So very sorry for your loss.

    For Kelley’s Xena:

So go and run free with the angels
    Dance around the golden clouds
For the lord has chosen you to be with him
And we should feel nothing but proud
Although he has taken you from us
And our pain a lifetime will last
Your memory will never escape us
But make us glad for the time we did have
Your face will always be hidden
    Deep inside our hearts
Each precious moment you gave us
    Shall never, ever depart
So go and run free with the angels
    As they sing so tenderly
And please be sure to tell them
To take good care of you for me

    Author unknown.

A Darling little Female version of our Darling Mini. Mini lost his best friend, Jack, (larger version of Mini also white Pom) earlier this year and your Xena departed this world on the anniversary of our Darling Jack’s 14th birthday, 17th October. I’m sure they have already by now met in their doggy afterlife shady spot under a tree or in a yarn basket and are busy swapping ‘Pomeranian only’ stories! You heart must be breaking as ours still is! But she will always be in your heart!

I am so sorry that this adorable little one is no longer part of your life.

Kelly and staff, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost a very special persian about 4 years ago. Although I have had other cats, Casey made a special place in my heart. I call him my “heart Pet”. Enjoy and treasure your memories from your Heart Pet. martha

  259. Kate Martin / October 17, 2013

I am a Christian. There are some that believe our loving companions do not have a soul and therefore cannot join us in heaven. I do not believe that. I believe that God blesses us with our furry angels to enrich our lives and serve as lessons and examples of the power and holiness of unconditional love. I am truly touched by this memorial blog dedicated to Xena and would assure her human companion that she will be waiting for her when it is her time to leave this earthly existence and begin a new adventure in God’s presence.

  260. Karen / October 17, 2013

My heart goes out to Kelly. Loosing someone so close to you makes you feel like your heart is broken into. I know Xena was love by everyone that knew her. I bet she is now somehow teaching knitting in her new adventure in life. My thoughts go out to Kelly and all of the KP staff. All 7 of my 4 legged family also send their regards for Xena

  273. Carol d. / October 17, 2013

I can totally relate as I had a cherished Pom who turned me into a loyal fan of them. I lost her on 9/11/2010 to heat stroke and of course tried to fill my empty heart so I got two Chloe & Bleu they can never replace Chanel although they are both wonderful in their own ways.

  274. Iris Rivera / October 17, 2013

I’m so sorry for your loss! Furry kids are love, personified. Every one of them is unique, every one of them is special, everyone of them honors us with their affection. This quote seems apt–it helped me, after I lost our little 15-yr-old Corgi girl:

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog
They take a piece of my heart with them.
And every new dog who comes into my life
Gifts me with a piece of their heart.
    If I live long enough,
All the components of my heart will be dog,
And I will become as generous and loving as they are. ”
    ~Unknown~

Very best wishes to you all!
