For our new fall knitting pattern collection Burnished, designer Megan Goodacre contributed not just one but two stunning patterns – the lovely Cartier Cowl Neck Sweater and the stunning Chalet Scarf! Let’s see what sparks Megan’s creativity as we get a small glimpse into her world of knitting pattern design and learn more about the process and technique.
design inspiration: Patterns are so mesmerizing! I collect books with pattern collections just to look at them. So designing the Chalet scarf was a fun chance to put pattern into action. The simplest geometric shapes and shifting colors make it so satisfying to look at.

must-have workspace tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom and My Mac (mac-girl since 1990). My sexy Manfrotto tripod with pivoting central post. Yeah, baby.
My Canon 50D, a reflector for photography and a mannequin for pinning.
Several needle gauges because I keep losing them, lots of interchangeable Knit Picks needles, sharp pointy scissors and a scale.
absolute favorite fiber: Cashmere. No wait, silk! No, merino. It’s probably cashmere.
current color crush: Smoky greys, neutrals, chartreuse with a tiny splash of orange-red.
top down or bottom up: Both! Top down: small cast on and pick up underarm stitches for pure seamlessness. Bottom up: get the body over with first, and think about the yoke while I’m knitting, graft underarm for a smooth finish.
