With a second ball of Chroma in my stash, I went exploring for a nice pattern that could take advantage of the generous yardage of Chroma Fingering weight.

This Gentle Reversible Shawl by Diana Troldahl has a lovely surprise in the instructions. Diana explains how to determine the equal division of whatever yarn you want to use. Then she also tells you how to adapt that knowledge to knitting her shawl. Absolutely brilliant!

I started rolling a ball of yarn from my single ball of Chroma Fingering in the Sunrise colorway. I went to a friend’s bakery to use her scales. Yes, I really need to just buy one of our scales to keep at home. Chroma Fingering weighs 100 grams. Notice how the original ball weighed in at 76 grams. That meant I had quite a bit more ball winding to do to balance things out.

Eventually the original ball weighed 50 grams. That was the beginning of the fascinating lesson Diana gives for working out the final distribution of the yarn. I am actually nearly finished. A few more rows and then blocking.
