Hello! I’m Andi Satterlund, and I’m delighted to be joining the Knit Picks team. I’ll be working hard to put together the newsletters you know and love, and I will also be diving in on expanding content here on this blog and beyond!
I’ve been knitting since 2003, and for a decade I was an independent knitting pattern designer and knitting blogger. If you thought my name looked familiar, that might be because you’ve seen my patterns before or maybe even knit one yourself. I’m primarily a sweater knitter and use my skills to fill my wardrobe with vintage-inspired pieces. I also enjoy collecting vintage knitting patterns, although my favorites to collect are the ones that are too kooky to knit!
Knitting is my biggest love, but I’ve also been crocheting for 15 years. My first sweater was actually a crocheted sweater, not knit, but these days I mostly crochet granny square blocks. I’ve been working on a queen-sized granny square blanket using Comfy Worsted for almost 5 years now and just passed the halfway point. I find the rhythm and simplicity of granny squares incredibly relaxing and enjoy exploring different ways to use them.
I can’t limit myself to just yarn crafts. I also bake and sew regularly and have been dabbling in dyeing textiles, polymer clay sculpture, watercolor painting, sashiko embroidery, and plant propagation. I love trying new things, which is how I’ve ended up with craft supplies crammed into every nook and cranny of my little Seattle apartment. I will be moving to Vancouver soon to join the team in the office, and I’m dreaming of finally having a dedicated craft room in my new home, because currently every room is a craft room.
My hope is to share my passion for trying new things with you, whether that might be inspiring you to try a new yarn, technique, or pattern. There are so many exciting new things coming soon, not to mention all the hidden gems that already exist here on KnitPicks.com, and I’m looking forward to bringing them all to you.
