Happy World Wide Knit in Public Day from Knit Picks!
Hands knitting

Knit Picks would like to wish you a very happy World Wide Knit in Public Day!

Knitters sitting around a table outdoors and working on knitting projects

Like much of the world, we spent the past year working remotely. So it was great fun to host our own KIP (knit in public) at Knit Picks HQ and reconnect as colleagues with projects! We enjoyed the opportunity to gather safely and celebrate #wwkipday2021. We hope you get the chance to join other knitters and yarn crafters today with the mission of “Better Living through Stitching Together!”

Two knitters sit next to each other outdoors and work on knitting projects.

It was so nice to get together with our coworkers in person, since we have largely been working from home for over a year. And knitting together was even better!

Enjoy the video below that shows highlights from our Knit in Public day!

How did you spend your World Wide Knit In Public Day?

I didn’t knit in public Saturday, but I do it on a regular basis all the time! I attend the Board of Commissioners meeting for my county here in North Carolina every first and third Mondays…front row, right corner, knitting in hand. I’ve become such a fixture that the one time I missed a meeting the young reporter who covers the meetings emailed me to say he’d missed me! And one time the Board Chair asked me where my knitting was…after the meeting had started…lol

Fort Vancouver Knitting Guild had a lovely time in Vancouver, WA, at Pacific Community Park. Weather in Vancouver gave us a break from the rain for exactly one day as we enjoyed a temperate, partly sunny day knitting and enjoying each other’s company. I have missed knitting in person with friends!

Hey Katie! That sounds like a great time and you are nearby in Vancouver. We’d love to see pics and hopefully we can join you soon to expand our knitting circle.

Five of us gathered for knitting and a potluck at Foothills Park in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The day and the group were delightful.

Loved this! Good to see people getting out there again. My knitting/ crochet group have been getting some time knitting in public for a few months now. Great knitting to you all!

I like to go to Starbucks with my husband. He reads news and I knit. So that’s knitting in public. I often get asked what I’m knitting or someone tells me of an aunt or mom or grandmother that knit!

I knitted 2 shalls 2 scarfs and a sweater, it all turned out great
Currently I am trying to knit a sweater out of Mink yarn I found in a estate sale,
It is very thin using size 3 needle, it is very hard to use.

      Hi Anette!
I asked two of our expert knitters, Lee Meredith and Stacey Winklepeck, and here’s their advice on knitting with Mink. If it’s troublesome as thin yarn, try this method for knitting with the yarn held triple: https://www.knitpicks.com/learning-center/triple-stranding. Alternatively, hold it together with a different sock yarn, to take care of slippery yarn or that yarn that breaks. Lastly, our experts both recommended knitting with wood needles. Happy knitting and feel free to reach out to our customer service team if you’d like more specific knitting advice, since we’re knitters too.

thx for the reminder. I will be knitting outside where we live now. At Sidney BC Canada and I shall be sitting on a bench overlooking the Salish Sea.
Two years ago a little boy was so intrigued by my knitting he sat beside me. His kind mom thought it fine.

    Enjoy the day.
