I’ve been so fortunate to have the Strands of Color pattern book as my first design project here at Knit Picks. I, as well as many of you, enjoy the clean and modern look to the Knit Picks pattern books. To highlight these beautiful colorwork patterns, and images I did make a few slight changes to open up the layout for an even more clean design for you to enjoy.
Strands of Color introduces you to 15 manageably sized color work projects ranging from accessories to practical home knits, that add a burst of color to your everyday needs! Grab a cup of coffee or hot tea and come take a peak at a few of my favorite colorwork patterns from this pattern book.
Arrows Headband
I’m still a beginner knitter so when I saw the Arrows Headband in the Strands of Color pattern book it peaked my interest. This pattern is worked flat lengthwise with a simple increase and decrease at the ends for shaping. A garter stitch border frames a Fair Isle-style stranded design, with only two colors used on any one row. This project is something I could practice my stranding work with and actually manage to get done! Plus the trendy arrows make it a must have in everyone’s wardrobe.
Morgan Mitts
These dramatic and alluring little mitts hail from the mystic faerie queen to sorcerous nemesis, Morgan le Fay. This stunning design uses three-color rows making bold color combinations adding a punch of style to your favorite fall outfits. These Morgan Mitts are worked in the round from the cuff. Plus the Strands of Color pattern book includes this design fully charted with dedicated charts for left and right hands.
Fireside Tablet Cover
I bring my tablet everywhere with me for quick design projects or just in case my niece and nephews need a quick video chat. So when I saw the Fireside Tablet Cover in the Strands of Color pattern book I knew I needed it! This beautiful Fair Isle design is like a cozy sweater for your tablet. Its extra thick because of the stranded knitting, and makes it the ideal cocoon to keep your digital companions safe. This knit starts with a provisional cast on to knit in the round to the flap, which is knit flat. A stranded two-color Fair Isle design covers both body and flap, with an I-cord loop and button to secure the flap closed.
Rafinesque Cowl
I saw this stunning cowl and I instantly knew it needed to grace the cover of this pattern book! The Rafinesque Cowl is worked in the round as a long tube, using a provisional cast on and grafting to form a seamless round. A series of slipped stitches help the cowl lie flat, without twisting. The stranded design features some three-color rows, with instructions included to modify for two-color rows. Cozy on up to this beautiful cowl that is the perfect length to keep you from the cold with out the added bulk of a winter scarf.
There are many more stunning projects like these in the Strands of Color pattern book. It’s also available in eBook form or for individual pattern download. I hope you enjoy this pattern book, as much as I enjoyed designing it for you!
