Though I have loved many Knit Picks yarns over the course of my recent project making, Preciosa Fingering Tonal Yarn might perhaps be my all-time favorite. The colors are spectacular, the softness is unmatched, and projects made in this yarn come out looking so very dreamy. For a while, I swore off fingering weight projects. I just wasn’t getting through them efficiently, and they would often be left in my knitting basket, as works in progress, for months and months. Preciosa Tonal Fingering Yarn is bringing me back to this yarn weight single handedly (or single ply-edly? haha). Here are some staff projects we’ve recently completed, if you’d like to see.
I made my daughter a Garland Striped Sweater (Ravelry link) from the book Sweet Pickles by Heidi and Anna Pickles. I have loved this pattern for so long, and size 6 is available for free on their website, though I made size 2-3, from the book (which has a lot of other amazing patterns, too). I made this sweater by holding together 2 strands of Preciosa Tonal Fingering Yarn (the original pattern holds two strands of yarn together, too), and it worked up really quickly and avoided the very slight pooling a tonal yarn might give. If you’re not worried about pooling, you could easily do this in Preciosa Tonal Worsted Yarn and still get gauge. Whatever color combinations you choose, Preciosa Yarns result in a really stunning sweater.
Another great option for using tonal yarns, is to go with Bare Preciosa Fingering and use the colors as an accent. Jenny made this sweater for herself (Pattern is Louise Light) by doing just that. The sweater took only 2 skeins of Preciosa Fingering Bare and 1 skein of Preciosa Fingering Tonal Yarn in Anemone for the Small 35.25 bust size and the short sleeve option. In this photo, she hasn’t yet attached the buttons, but she has since, and let me tell you that when she’s worn the sweater it looks AMAZING. There’s a light, gorgeous halo with this yarn that reminds me a lot of another favorite yarn, Capretta. Using only 3 skeins of Preciosa Fingering Tonal Yarn, this is a relatively economical project that will keep your needles clicking for a while.
I am currently working on a Christmas mitten project (Ravelry link) with Preciosa Tonal Fingering Yarn in Bonsai, Gladiola, Stormy, and Bare, and it’s looking so great! I can’t wait to show you once I have a few more of them done. I also have hats and mitten set planned, that can progress as they will, for next winter.
Have you tried Preciosa Tonal Fingering Yarn yet? Do you have plans to? What are you using this yarn to make? Let us know in comments!
