Sock season is just around the corner so we’re highlighting patterns perfect for Hawthorne, hands-down my favorite sock yarn! Sturdy but soft, this yarn is machine-washable and will stand up to some seriously heavy use. Stacey’s Go Your Own Way free sock pattern is a great, basic top down or toe up project. Shown in Wisp and Serpent tonal, you can use one hank of your favorite fingering weight colorway to whip up a pair just in time for the first frosty morning!
The subtle, shifting colors in Hawthorne Kettle Dye would also look incredible in Sarah Miller’s knee-high Peony Socks! Cables, moss stitch and custom calf shaping make this a great project for an experienced sock knitter looking for a beautiful show piece to add to their wardrobe.
The Gates of Avalon Socks are knit top down with intricate stitch work that will stand up to the lovely Hawthorne Multi colorways.
Sport weight sock patterns can be few and far between, but we’ve got you covered with Amanda Lilley’s Cabin Socks! Whether you need warm weather socks for under your favorite boots or as a slipper to keep your feet warm in colder months, this pattern in Hawthorne Multi Sport will fit the bill. Top down with a dense cable pattern, you’ll find this pattern easy to make and wonderful to wear.
Lastly, I’ve personally made several pairs of socks using our free Two at One, Toe Up, Magic Loop Socks Pattern. It’s easy to customize by adding ribbing in on the instep as I did for the green pair in the Mt. Tabor colorway and adjusting the foot length for any size shoe. I’m always in danger of succumbing to “second sock fatigue” so I always work both socks at once. That way they’re both the same size too!
I absolutely love how Goose Hollow knits up as well and the plain stockinette foot really shows off the range of colors in each hank!
Do you have a favorite Hawthorne colorway for socks? I can’t wait to cast on another pair before the holidays.
