palette_family_SE12_

That’s what we want to know.  We are giving away our Palette Sampler to one lucky person – all 150 colors of our Palette line!

So what would you do with all this glorious yarn?  Hang all of it up on your wall as art? Make every single pair of mitten from patterns by SpillyJane?  Make multiple versions of Kerin’s Dogwood Blossoms? Crochet a granny square with each color and create the most colorful blanket ever?  Roll around in it?  Tell us!

And that’s all you need to do to enter – just leave a comment on this post, telling us what you would do with 150 different colors of Palette.  We’ll close the comments on Monday October 21st and choose one very lucky winner!

Rules: One entry per person. Must have a US or Canada mailing address. No purchase necessary. All comments must be posted on THIS blog post. Comments on other blog posts or on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, G+, Ravelry, etc.) will not be valid for this contest. We will close the comments at 7am PST October 21 and select a winner soon after!

As a note, don’t worry if your comment doesn’t show up right away – because of not-very-nice spammers that slip through our filters, we need to approve each comment.  So there might be delay, especially over the weekend – but don’t worry, we’ll get your entry!

NOTE:  Wow, this is the biggest response to a contest ever!  To keep our blog from dying, we will be archiving comments so you may not see your comment. DON’T WORRY!  We will get them & all will be counted as an entry.

  5. Rachael / October 21, 2013

First I would take my first shot at a sweater. I have knit many socks and mittens but never a full size garment for myself. Next, the Blueberry Forrest baby sweater. Then the fun would really start . . .

  6. Margaret Robinson / October 21, 2013

I’d finish up three sets of Cristmas ornaments … tiny knitted sweaters, hats, socks, etc. Then I’d do something requiring stranded colorwork, maybe a hat and some mitts and a cowl … maybe even a sweater … and then ….?

  7. Donna Fallon / October 21, 2013

  8. Andrea Knutsen / October 21, 2013

I would knit and craft, knit some more, and then learn to crochet better. Pretty sure I would just sink my hands into the whole pile for a lengthy time too!

  10. Sparrow Rose Jones / October 21, 2013

My computer wouldn’t let me through until now. I’m afraid I missed the deadline. but I still want to tell you that I would make a little village of animals and people, all designed out of my own head if I had this many colors!

  11. Jackie McDonald / October 21, 2013

I must say, it’s been on my heart for the last couple years to use my knitting talent to knit for the homeless but sadly I haven’t actually done it. So, if I had that much yarn, I want to publically say that I would be honored to knit colorful socks for children that are in our local homeless shelters.

  12. Gloria Wilson / October 21, 2013

I would knit up gifts for my friends, relatives, and perhaps sell at few items at craft bazaars..
This would make a wonderful patchwork afghan too.. perhaps a log cabin afghan..

  13. Cassie Svitak / October 21, 2013

I’d be torn between just putting them all in a pile and swimming through all the colors, or actually knitting them all up into something usable as one should.
Ugh, the choices, though! A color gradient lace shawl maybe? like 100 pairs of socks? One huge rainbow scarf? Or a mosaic blanket, knitted up to look like stained glass.
That last one. I like the sound of the last one. But heck, when one is spoiled for choice, I’d probably end up just rolling on them a little while anyway while I make up my mind.

  14. Angela Zaikowski / October 21, 2013

I would try to figure out how to store this much extra yarn at my house while trying to convince my husband that I actually didn’t purchase all of this yarn!

  15. Sarah Smith / October 21, 2013

Two words: Fair isle. Pick me, pick me!

  16. Sherry Peters / October 21, 2013

  17. Lorraine Sarno / October 21, 2013

I would use the yarn to distribute to those who are knitting dog sweaters and coats to raise funds for animal rescue. We fund raise to pay for needed medical care and dental care so that anumal rescue groups can take dogs from shelters and begin to rehome them. These animals are not usually adopted because they they have medical needs that are costly. thank you for considering us.

  18. Lucie / October 21, 2013

Every year I try to knit or crochet over a hundred preemie hats and mitts for the critical care unit in Ottawa with my leftovers. But if I had 150 palettes, then I would share with my friends so they to could help this much needed cause.
Either way, thank you, for such beautiful yarns and colors.

  19. Kate McGrath / October 21, 2013

Once I stopped drooling and twitching I would definitely roll around in it a little! 🙂 Just kidding! I would be interested in weaving it into shawls. We have a lot of nursing homes in our area and I think most of the ladies living in them would love a beautiful hand woven shawl for the upcoming cooler weather. Lap blankets for the gentlemen or maybe a nice scarf. Just a little something to brighten their holidays!

  44. Penny Edwards / October 21, 2013

Family members (so far 10 and counting) are busy asking for knitted or crocheted items – poncho; afghans, scarves, hats, etc). . Many grand nieces and nephews are popping up – even a great grand in the making. Winning this Palette Sampler would be immense and very helpful with colors to choose from.

  45. Lisa McMeekin / October 21, 2013

I have always looked at the beautiful colors of Palette & felt a little overwhelmed. I have always wanted to do some of the beautiful stranded color work=the Norwegian & Fair Isles styles, the gorgeous sweaters that you see with the patterns of sheep that seem to jump around the sweater, the flowers that “grow” in lovely rows, etc, etc. & with this entire palette I could indulge in all of those wonderful designs & not worry about how much I spent, or will I pick the correct color combo. My husband & I are moving from Sunny Southern California to the wintery NorthEast Ohio to be near my daughter & help her raise my grandkids….so I will finally have reasons to make LOTS of sweaters & would LOVE, love, love to have the freedom that an entire palette would give me. If my head didn’t explode with all of the wonderful possibilities!! So many wonderful sweaters, so few days in the year!

  46. Dawn Duncan / October 21, 2013

I would make the most beautiful afghan with all that yarn, it would be my biggest accomplishment to pass on to my grands

  47. Sandra / October 21, 2013

I see mittens, cushion covers and a throw or two in my future. Once I stop fondling the yarn, that is. 🙂
With so many colour combinations possible, the fun to be had is impossible to describe….

  48. Abby Keane / October 21, 2013

Not sure if this will count, but tried all morning to comment and it didn’t work. I would make a Wool Eater Blanket…after just burying myself in all the yarny goodness for awhile!

  49. Suzy / October 21, 2013

I would make as many scarfs as my family wants and THEN I would make a beautiful tree sock & colorful plant hangers. Oh hhhhow much fun it would be! 🙂 I would also share with my friends & family, so much beautiful yarn! 🙂

  50. Jeanne Cunningham / October 21, 2013

I would share with my Local knitting guild members (Nebraska Knitting and Crochet Guild) and make blanket squares or similar to combine for charity fundraisers.

  51. Becca / October 21, 2013

I would create a “yarn bit” and jump in it.

No, but seriously, I would probably make a lot of color work mitts and mittens and just enjoy all of the possibilities!

    • Becca / October 21, 2013

      pit not bit! 😀

  52. Lance / October 21, 2013

I have a friend, she might as well be family, her name is Barbara. Over the last couple of years I have been very ill, 13 total months in the hospital between spring of 2011 and this year, and Barbara has helped me get through it all. She has been moral support, a cheering section, someone I could trust not to give up on me and not allow me to give up on myself. I am not sure I would have made it through everything if it had not been for her. She knits these crazy beautiful sweaters and handwarmers and I think it would be beyond wonderful to say to her, “Here are all of the colors of the kindness you showed to me in return.” That, is what I would do with the yarn if I won it…

  53. Lyndsi Skiles / October 21, 2013

Yarn in such glorious colors would most definitely need to be out on display, and when you are working on the thousands of projects you could create with it all, you could just take out what you need!

  54. Melissa Rodgers / October 21, 2013

I would be in sock making heaven!!! Imagine it…socks in every shade.

  55. pam springer / October 21, 2013

I would spend the first week sitting on the floor surrounded by the different yarns, sorting and re-sorting them in different arrangements. Then I would pore over books, magazine, leaflets and websites to explore all the different things I could do with the yarn. Then I would knit.

  56. Kristy Atchley / October 21, 2013

Yay!!! You guys are so fun 😀

  57. Nancy Potter / October 21, 2013

I know the contest is now closed, but just opened my emails after a very long weekend. Just wanted to say what a great idea and opportunity for knitting addicts.. keep up the efforts. Nancy

  59. Melanie Morris / October 21, 2013

I would knit a rainbow blanket.

  60. Kristina Velez / October 21, 2013

If I won 150 skeins of this wonderful yarn, I would display it in my dining room as an epic yarn wall of art at first while I try to decide which of the gazillion patterns I’d like to make up first!

  61. Tricia / October 21, 2013

Oh man! If I had all this yarn I would have a huge crochet party with all my crafty friends. Then pull an all nighter and yarn bomb our downtown square in our quaint little town. Oh… and of course have lots and lots of goodies for my new addition arriving in March!

  62. Linda / October 21, 2013

I would make make the most beautiful Entrelac scarves for 150 of my closest friends!

  65. Kate Palmiere / October 21, 2013

Oh my…after doing a happy dance, I’d have to surround myself with all that color and just enjoy! Then I’d start planning what I might make for my friends and family. I imagine it would be the same excitement and joy as when I surround myself with lots of food magazines. I love to imagine the possibilities!

  66. Dottie Martz / October 21, 2013

The colorful blanket, of course! i have three new great grand childen….it would not go to waste!

  67. Shay Hobbs / October 21, 2013

Holy WOW would this yarn stash be an amazing blessing! It would be beautiful to display as art but I’m guessing I would be knitting up some amazing Christmas gifts. I am unable to work due to health reasons and have lost my income! All this yarn would sure be a blessing to provide my loved ones with handmade gifts!
Thank you for such a special offer to your knitting community!

  68. Sherry Johnson / October 21, 2013

There is a group of ladies in our church who crochet and knit afghans for homeless children in Albuquerque, poor children in the Matheson Park Elementary School District, which has many needy children attending, children in Juarez, Mexico, and people of all ages, sick and/or dying. This yarn would be used to keep children and people warm through the winter, give them comfort and let them know that someone cares for them.

  69. Rosemary Madden / October 21, 2013

The possibilities are endless with a stash like this. I’d definitely make Christmas gifts with it, but I’d also like to make at least one blanket for one of the homeless shelters in our area and make some baby hats for the premies at one of our local hospitals.

  70. sandra tester / October 21, 2013

make baby bonnets and blankets to donate to the hospitals

  71. Joan Beck / October 21, 2013

  72. Lee Baker / October 21, 2013

EXPLORE!!…where my heart leads and my soul sings, to create with wild abandon and joy.

A song in the Disney movie, “Pocahontas” asks “Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?” How wondrous it would be to try!!

Thank you for allowing that opportunity for someone.

  73. Katy R / October 21, 2013

I would probably keep my favorites for myself, give my mom some skeins, and then donate the rest to our prayer shawl ministry at church!

  74. Morgan / October 21, 2013

I would stash it as wall art in beautifully constructed way and look at it until I came up with the perfect pattern. Like millions of socks or the sweetest blanket ever! Or I would make so many Christmas presents I would considered the crazy knitting-gifting lady!! 🙂

  75. Autumn Cambra / October 21, 2013

I would make a beanie or headband and blankets for everyone who has asked me for one. I love making hats and blankets and everyone always says they want one. I just don’t have the money for all the yarn. It would be amazing to be able to have this much yarn and actually be able to make everyone the things they want. 🙂

  76. Diane Loh / October 21, 2013

I would share with my knitting group for us to knit hats, mittens and scarfs for charity. We have sent sweaters and hats to Mexico as well as local needs.

  77. Donna Pilkington / October 21, 2013

If I had all 150 skein colors of Palette I would use it to knit tree trunk stripes for the trees in the woods around my house. I would also have streamers coming down the trees . As winter approaches this would be an explosion of artful color for the trees and a treat for the eyes of the people who use the prairie path behind my woods. They would be able to enjoy it as they pass by and I would enjoy from my house. Imagine how this would look in snow or on a cold winter day when everything is so grey.

  78. Darquise Poulin / October 21, 2013

After trying it and If I like it, I would certainly consider buying more …

  79. Barbara MacIntosh / October 21, 2013

I would make oodles of toddler sweaters for the church fair for next year. Just found out that was the most sought after item but too late for this year as the fair is the 26th!!

  80. Karen / October 21, 2013

Tell my husband, “See, I really do need a studio (for my yarn)!”

  81. Daria / October 21, 2013

My 1st thought was to roll around in it, but then thinking of all the untangling I would have to do, well that was not good.

I think I might make a sampler afghan using all the colors to show case different stitch patterns, or I might group them by complementary colors and create smaller blankets to give away.

I don’t know what I would do with 150 skeins…but I’m sure I would have lots of fun trying to figure it out!!

  82. Elaine Boston / October 21, 2013

I would make lots of colorful fingerless mitts.

  83. Alyssa Atchley / October 21, 2013

With that much yarn, I would knit baby blankets to donate to local hospitals. I think I would have my mother and sister crochet some to help keep up with all the new births.

  84. Camille Wall / October 21, 2013

Multicolored sweater, mittens, scarfs, socks. The list might be as long as your creativity.

  85. Jennifer Sandoval / October 21, 2013

Share! And challenge my knitting friends to some colorwork.

  86. Elvita Rhodes / October 21, 2013

I would probably do hue shift color combinations as in your afghan kit. I was a knit fabric colorist and stylist and love to work with color. I love Elizabeth Zimmerman book “Knit one Knit all”.I have knitted lots of baby surprise sweaters and have experimented with a stockinette version. In my design days I did many stripe designs. I hope someday to learn color work knitting.

  87. Linda Fabbro / October 21, 2013

WOW! It would be so fantastic, I’m not certain!!! We have a prayer shawl ministry at our church that could make a lot of beautiful shawls out of these skeins! So I guess, that is what I would do with it!
    What a nice thought!
    Thanks for letting me enter!

  88. sarita mendonca / October 21, 2013

I would make a four-seasons-in-one afghan – multiple granny squares with shades for every season.

  89. Naomi Frenkel / October 21, 2013

Alternatives for Girls is a non-profit that helps 15 – 21 homeless girls get their lives back. None of these girls have any family and are living in cars and abandoned buildings. I would use the yarn to knit scarves and hats for these girls and donate them to Alternatives for Girls.

  90. Stefanie / October 21, 2013

I would love to make a giant throw! One or two rows per color!

  91. Lilllie / October 21, 2013

I would make clothes and gifts for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among their favorites are animal hats and colorful purses. With #14 great-grandchild due in November and #15 great-grandchild due in December I could put this yarn to immediate use!

  92. nancy olson / October 21, 2013

150 pairs of socks , oh my !

  93. Christine Wagner / October 21, 2013

I would make the most amazing multi-colored shawls for our church Prayer Shawl Ministry…and of course share the wealth with the entire group!

  94. Shelley Verdun / October 21, 2013

Always a great catalog and ideas!!

    • Shelley Verdun / October 21, 2013

First I would lay them all out and look at them, for several days…maybe more. And touch alot!!

Then I would start making notes, considering different patterns and then begin selecting colors for projects.

Because this would be such an unbelievable G-I-F-T, I would start with projects I could donate to help someone or make them feel good.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, completed my surgery and was then facing chemotherapy, someone I barely knew, came to my home and gifted me with a knitted cap.

I have it to this day as a remembrance of all the emotions and feelings I was experiencing and that someone took the time to comfort me with a handmade cap to see me through one of My Life’s Events.

  95. Susan Goen / October 21, 2013

I’d find a colorful project to use every single skein!

  96. susan Dye / October 21, 2013

I would share half with my granddaughter and then make something warm and beautiful for everyone I know. What fun!!

  97. B in VT / October 21, 2013

    mittens galore!

  98. Donna Dye / October 21, 2013

I would donate every last skein to the Dodge County Correctional Institution. They just put out an appeal for yarn as they are ALL OUT! The inmates make stuff and donate thru their Community Service Program. I would love to have 150 skeins of yarn but I’ll bet the crafters at DCI would love the yarn even more!!

  99. Danielle / October 21, 2013

I would rub that yarn on my face. After that got boring, I would knit some fabulous socks. Lots and lots of fabulous socks. Then I would rub the socks on my face.

  100. Leah Scherer / October 21, 2013

I am becoming an aunt next year and would love to make a very special colorful afghan for my new niece/nephew that they could cherish and eventually pass onto their own children.

  101. Janet Kirby / October 21, 2013

If I were fortunate enough to win this contest, I would use the 150 skeins of Palette to make graduation gifts for my some of my departing seniors. I am a high school English teacher, and each year I knit hats or mittens for students who have put in extra effort, finished their senior well, and successfully avoided succumbing to “senioritis.”

  102. Crystal Louise Clark / October 21, 2013

WOW!!! First I would take a picture and make it the coverpage of my facebook page. I would want to make at least one square or circle of each color for a afghan. Then I would pick out all the purple and make myself a sweater and all the greens and make my sister a sweater and all the blues and make my mom a sweater then then to stash for creative foder for projects in the future and beyond.

  103. Jayde / October 21, 2013

Colorwork! I’ve got a number of small projects I’d love to do that require two or more colors of yarn. There would be fancy Norwegian style mittens for everyone!

  104. Alie / October 21, 2013

So, so, soooo many slouchy hats

  105. craftyshanna / October 21, 2013

Wow, what *wouldn’t* I do with every color of Palette. I just finally got the hang of colorwork without the strands being too tight, so I would have a ball (pun intended) making everything in sight that involves colorwork! Christmas would be very colorful for all my family and friends, and for ME!

  106. Theresa / October 21, 2013

Wow…I can’t imagine what I could do with all that yarn. I’d definitely work up some hats to donate. Then

  107. Brittany Bucholz / October 21, 2013

I would absolutely love to have the entire Palette collection for my stash. I believe I would start by making mittens for all my family members. 🙂

  108. Jennifer Lohmueller / October 21, 2013

Palette is an absolutely fabulous yarn for stranded knitting and intarsia. I have made many diverse projects such as tams, sweaters, and home decor items with this yarn. I love that I can design a project with a specific color in mind and I will be able to find it in Palette. I would LOVE to have all of the colors so that I can make a shawl in the style of Kaffe Fassett, along with lots of fun mini projects with the left-over yarn.

  109. Kat R / October 21, 2013

I would knit a ridiculous number of hats and then donate them to whoever needed them in my community and beyond.

… But I’d keep a few skeins to knit a pretty variegated shawl for myself.

I’d knit up a cozy rainbow colored afghan and cuddle up with a nice cup of tea!

I would definitely, without a doubt, make a granny square blanket for my mom. I have always wanted to make one but have never been able to acquire the amount of yarn needed.
As for the leftovers, I would probably use the rest to knit small gifts – my mom lives in a nursing home and the ladies there would cherish warm scarves or mittens!!!! I would love to be able to give them something beautiful to see their eyes light up in delight!!

Wow. Yes, I’d probably roll around in it first. Then I’d experiment with like a thousand fair isle motifs. Then I’d make an ombre something (a center-out blanket or a top-down sweater). And I’d make lots of hats for a friend’s charity.

I would make chemo caps for the Seattle Cancer Alliance House. I have stayed there while having radiation treatments and two cancer surgeries.
There are a lot of people going thru difficult times. Thanks

I would donate it to the high school where my friend works. They are trying to get a ‘craft’ club started with very little funding and one of the projects requested is ‘how to’ knit and crochet!!

Before I made anything, I would throw it on the ground, roll in it and tell myself that I was the luckiest person in the entire world! Then I would go through my “someday I will knit this” list of patterns and have fun choosing my 1st through 150th project!

We have a cozy conservatory in our university’s library with a tree in the middle. The natural feeling of peace provided by the tree and the extra light make it the favourite place to read for most students.
There’s free paper close to the tree and It’s sad to see students wasting it. Even though we have a “Help protect the environment” sign on the wall, you still see lots of paper planes floating in the air.
I would bring awareness to this issue by making an installation. I would decorate the leafless branches with the skeins and make the most colourful winter tree. The sign would read: Trees bring colour to our lives. Let’s not waste paper anymore. I believe this would be an effective way to deliver the message and promote responsibility.

Wow!! What wouldn’t I knit. My daughter is crazy about cowls right now. I could make her and all her friends many beautiful and colourful cowls. Multicoloured mittens, scarves, the list is endless. I also see a beautiful colourful sweater with so may options.
