Sometimes when it comes to lace, less can be more!
Inspired by the hardy, well-adapted arctic willow, the Salix shawl takes cues from a seemingly barren landscape that’s far more alive than you might think!
Salix is a full-sized Shetland-type shawl knit in Palette. Above a border of Shells is a low-lying row of Buttercups. The body of the shawl is worked in a pattern of Pebbles, with little variations just like those on a beach. The stand-out feature, though, is the willow catkin running up the shaped center panel.
The shoulders of the shawl are shaped to fit without having to fasten it – once you throw Salix over your shoulders, it stays put! The neckline edge is finished in a simple border of Buttercups, which are grafted at the neck to form an invisible seam.
This shawl is knit from the bottom up, meaning that each row is shorter than the one before it – making this large, cozy shawl knit up quickly! The simple garter stitch Shell border is picked up and knit on sideways, and is optional if you prefer the straight edge.As a kit, Salix comes in three tones of cool brown – or, buy the pattern separately and make your own kit with your favorite colors!
If you’re looking for a lace project that will take you into Fall while being easy enough for vacation knitting, Salix is a great choice!
