I have to admit that I’m not the hugest Harry Potter fan in my family. My dad and my sister have both read all of the books, and I’ve only read, um, 2 chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. BUT I have seen all the movies. Since my dad is such a big fan, I’m thinking of knitting him something from Charmed Knits for either Christmas or his birthday in March (his birthday is looking likelier and likelier as Christmas gets closer and closer!) Picking colors for a lot of the projects in the book is pretty easy since Alison Hansel used lots of Knit Picks yarns, but since we’ve introduced some new colors, I’ve been thinking a bit about which yarns I’d actually choose.
This post on Ravelry was the final push I needed to compile a list of all the Knit Picks yarns you could use for Harry Potter projects. There are many many Harry Potter projects on Ravelry so I included every weight of yarn we carry. There’s also a nice pattern for the Hogwart’s scarf on atypically.knit.
The yellows and golds were definitely the hardest to pick out, a lot of our yellow yarns are soft and buttery and gorgeous, but maybe not exactly the color you’d think of when you think of Harry Potter House colors, but I included a few of them anyway, if you’re not a perfectionist, I think these would do. If you are a perfectionist, you could always get some Bare and dye your own! I’ve also marked my favorite color combinations with little *’s. I used yarn samples to pick these colors so if they don’t look right on your particular computer monitor, you’re just going to have to trust me!
