Knit Picks Podcast Episode 344 – Forage for Natural Dyes with Anna Canning and Dye Bare Yarns With Items Found at Home

As the days get longer, knitters often head outside with their crafting. On this episode of the Knit Picks Podcast, we are talking about natural yarn dyeing with bare yarns.

First up Lee and Stacey catch up on what they did for World Wide Knit In Public Day and some recently finished projects. They talk about their love of Knit Picks Bare Yarns, undyed yarns. Knit Picks carries all the same yarns you have grown to love and some additional ones in the Bare yarn line. Stacey is a big fan of the Knit Picks Bare Woodland Tweed and the Bare Woolen Cotton.

Next Lee interviews Anna Canning who is a hobby natural yarn dyer. Anna has spent a lot of her personal time researching different natural dyeing techniques. She has experimented with items found at the grocery store as well as items she finds on walks around her neighborhood. Listen in to hear about her insider tricks to get started today dyeing your own Bare Yarns from items around the house.

Thank you for the new feature of providing a downloadable PDF transcript of the podcast. I see that the WeCrochet podcast has also started to offer that service. Seeing it for the first time over there made me think to check if the knitting podcast had it available. Thank you for the time and work you put in to make this content accessible to those with hearing impairments or anyone who simply wants a fast way to “eyeball” something that they heard without replaying a lengthy audio clip.

Thanks Julie! We hope to have transcripts for all podcasts moving forward and we’re aim to work through the archive over time.

I love this episode! I’ve listened to it twice already! Great info. I love hearing about color and how different plants produce different results. I’m looking forward to trying some of the natural dying techniques you discussed. I’m excited to find what natural dye stuff is in my area (Colorado). When I lived in Albuquerque I dyed with prickly pear and that was fun.

    Keep up the great work!

Thanks Wendy! Let us know if you discover any good naturals dyes in Colorado. We have a Facebook Group called Together We Knit that is pretty active. I’m sure others there would also love to know what you discover.
