Toasty Plus Pot Holder Free Pattern

All these fog banks, drizzle-filled afternoons and cold mornings mean that I’ve moved all my soup recipes to the front of my recipe box and stocked up on bags of onions, carrots and celery to simmer down into rich vegetable stock. My house is going to smell amazing for the next few months. My pot holders have been doing double duty because I use them to grab things from the oven, to pop hot lids off of stock pots and stick them under casserole dishes to protect my cherished cherry table. It’s hot dish weather and I definitely needed to beef up my pot holder stack NOW!

This is a quick little pattern that showcases Dishie‘s sturdy cotton fiber and chunky, worsted weight stitches. The Toasty Plus Pot Holders are worked in the round on circular needles and feature a simple stranded colorwork design which makes these pot holders extra thick and means that they don’t need to be lined.

You can get two pot holders out of two balls of Dishie, I used Swan and Blue for this pattern but I think that ANY Dishie color paired with Swan would look amazing (I have a feeling that a ball of Silver might wind up in my bag for another set!).

This is really pretty! But a couple of questions: Would this be possible for a beginner knitter who hasn’t done colorwork before? I’d like to start, somewhere, but not sure if this would be too hard for me or not. Also, the directions say to use “Judy’s Magic Cast On”. I’m not sure what that is. I tried searching on the Knit Picks site and I found it but when I clicked on the link, it said the page was not found. Thanks!!

      Hi there Roxanne!

I would probably not suggest this pattern as a very first foray into colorwork knitting because I don’t walk you through the stranded colorwork technique but it would make a good second or third project once you’re familiar with the very basics of the process.

However, if you wanted to take a stab at this one, to make it easier I would nix the Judy’s Magic Cast On (which makes a closed bottom to start with) and instead cast on the total number of stitches and work in the round normally then seaming the end shut once you’ve finished.

If you’re interested in Judy’s Magic Cast On, here is a link to our video tutorial on the technique! http://tutorials.knitpicks.com/wptutorials/judys-magic-cast-on/

Same here, everything works great until you tell it to download and then you get : We’re sorry but there was an error downloading this pattern.

Hey all, we’re looking into the download issues – we haven’t had a problem in our Chrome or Firefox browsers but we have let our IT dept know of the issue.
