Tilework Afghan

This week’s Freebie Friday is a gorgeous pattern by our own Kerin:

This is the Tilework Afghan, a cozy and warm blanket, perfect for chilly fall days.

Funny enough, I woke up this morning to crisp cool fall-like weather.  After our week of heat last week, it feels great!  Autumn is my favorite time of year – I love snuggling under the one of the many hand knitted (or crochet!) blankets currently litering my couch and this afghan would be a great addition to them!

If you haven’t done mitered squares before, they are fun & easy to do.  All you need to know for the Tilework Afghan is how to knit, how to decrease, and how to pick up stitches.  So this a great pattern for those beginners wanting to take the next step…or for those who just want a nice soothing project while watching TV & drinking hot cider.

After you create a four block square, you attach them with the Mattress stitch into a nice big afghan. – this one is 48″ x 60″ but you can go larger or smaller, depending on the number of squares you do.  Not sure on some of these techniques?  Our tutorials cover them all!

Plus since this pattern uses Brava, you have a lot of color combinations to mix & match.  Want even more choices?  This pattern also works well using Wool of the Andes, where there is 100 colors to choose from! Since this would make a great gift for everyone on your list, you can choose anyone’s favorite colors or to match any household.

Here’s where you’ll find the pattern:
