Another IDP Milestone

Working on the IDP program has been such a great experience.  I get
to work with all these fantastic designers – some I’ve been a fan of for
years, some I only just met & am excited to see more from – and
then best of all, I get to share them with all of you!  And we hit a
major milestone this week.

We have sold 50,000 patterns since December

!!!!

I couldn’t believe it when that number came up!  WOW!  I’m so happy
that this program has been as popular with all of you as it is for me
& the designers – remember, the designers keep 100% of all their
pattern sales.  We now have over 260 designers and just under 600
knitting and crochet patterns and it grows every week – I put up 10-20
patterns every week in the IDP catagory. In fact,  have you seen our new pattern catagory redesign?  Now it’s even easier to find your favorite IDP patterns!

Since I like lists (yes, I’m a nerd), how about our top sellers
overall?  These 5 patterns do have a little advantage as they went up
when we first started – but they do cover the wide range of patterns
available!

Lace Class – starting July First!

Lace is one of those things that can be pretty intimidating. But it doesn’t have to be!

Join me as we
explore the wonderful world of lace yarn. Fabulously fine, lace yarns are a lot
more versatile than you might think. Experiment with color, style and
techniques, and learn that in the yarn world, ‘little’ goes a long
way!

This won’t be a typical “here’s a project we’ll work on together” type class. Instead, I’ll be going over things like how best to wind lace yarn into a ball, how to deal with joining new balls of yarn, what you can do with lace yarn that’s not lace, and lots of other information that should take the “EEK!” factor out of knitting lace. Have a question that’s kept you from experimenting with lace? Ask away!

The first video in this class will be posted on July 1 – bring …

Demystifying Lace, Class 6 – Blocking

So, you’ve knit some lace, and it looks like a big pile of holey
cheese. Now what? Where’s that gorgeous shawl pictured in the pattern
photo?

There’s only one way to see the true beauty of what you’ve made. Block it!

In
this video, I go over all the tools you’ll need for the job. I’ve also
included our existing tutorial on blocking with Lace Blocking wires. I
had planned on photographing the process as well this week, but time was
not on my side! I will post some next week. Do you have any questions
about blocking, or have blocking before-and after stories and photos to
share? I’d love to hear from you!

Now, without further ado, let me introduce you to the most fun and magical part of lace knitting.

Lace Weather

When the weather heats up around here, it’s definitely lace season.
It’s the perfect time to cast on an intricate shawl to work on during
the summer months and have ready for the first few chilly nights in
autumn. If you’re looking for a new lace project for the summer, try
the Baltic Lace kit!

This kit has yarn and patterns for both the Karukell Shawl and the Catkin scarf or stole (shown here in stole option).

Staff news!

I wanted to take a minute to introduce our new Marketing Coordinator,
Alisha. Alisha currently crochets, and she’s decided to learn how to
knit. Her first project is going to be a scarf, and I already assured
her that everyone in the Knitting Community and here on the blog would
offer lots of moral support and advice if she needs help. Welcome
Alisha!!

500!

When entering the IDP patterns for this week, I was shocked to
realize that we are at number 500! WOW!  It feels just like yesterday
that I started my position here as the IDP Coordinator and going over
our first batch of patterns, getting really excited to let the world
know about our great program.  Since we started in December 2009, we
have had 34,000 sales, all of which goes directly to our 230 designers! I
feel like the luckiest person in the world, getting to work with all
these talented designers!

And what pattern was lucky 500?
