Noni Flowers – and a contest!

update 6/04 – Contest is over! We’ll announce winners later today!

I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting knitting projects, so it was no surprise that when Noni Flowers came across my desk, I couldn’t stop flipping through the pages! Filled with page after page of stunning photography of life-like knitted flowers, I was instantly mesmerized by the attention to detail that every flower was given. Designer Norah Bellows brings an amazing collection of knitted flowers to life, all while giving you guidance through techniques specific to creating these little beauties. Norah starts off by breaking down the anatomy of a knitted flower and then guides you through special techniques – such as how to create the stamen and how to add wire to your flowers.

One of my favorite parts of the book is how Norah included the foliage of the actual plants and photographed it together with her knitted flowers.

Norah’s inspiration came from her own garden in addition to botanical prints, and her love of flowers is undeniable. All of the flowers in the book are just so beautiful, it makes it really difficult to choose a favorite. Any flower of Norah’s would instantly add a splash of color to any room.

Noni Flowers even includes six patterns for accessories, wraps, and home decor. And just like with her flowers, Norah brings her expertise on how to best incorporate her knitted flowers into other projects and gives tips on finishing techniques and how to best apply the flowers onto the surfaces of other projects.

I just love how the flower is traveling up and emerging from the cables in the May Violets Fingerless Gloves (shown above)! My mind is racing with ideas for incorporating these beautiful knitted flowers into my projects – and don’t forget my living room, too!

And if you are as enchanted by Norah’s flowers as I am, you’ll get a chance to hear all of the behind the scenes details of Noni Flowers on next week’s podcast! I got a chance to catch up with Norah to chat about everything from how the idea for Noni Flowers came to be, to her design process, in addition to tips and tricks for creating your very own knitted garden of flowers.

Noni Flowers is a great book that is sure to inspire ways of adding more colorful flowers into your life. Which is why you are in luck! We have two copies of Noni Flowers to give away! All you have to do is leave a comment telling me about your favorite flower or how you’d imagine incorporating knitting flowers into your projects.

Rules: One entry per person. Must have a US or Canada mailing address. No purchase necessary. All comments must be posted on THIS blog post. Comments on other blog posts or on Facebook/Twitter will not be valid for this contest. We will close the comments June 4th and draw the winners then!
