August has really been off to quite the start. With everything from new fall yarns to Sunstruck needles and limited-edition crochet hooks making their appearance, it’s hard to know what to gush about first. And since I always seem to bit a bit cold, I have to say that it has been quite difficult to contain my excitement for one of our newest yarn lines – Reverie!
This light and fluffy blend of 80% baby alpaca and 20% acrylic is just the thing for that perfect weekend sweater. I already have a picture in my mind of a cozy Reverie sweater that I can wear instead of a light jacket as the weather transitions to the chilly autumn air. The soft halo and lofty quality of Reverie totally embodies comfort to me and is just the thing for a relaxed, weekend sweater or dramatic, billowing cowls and scarves. Just add a cup of hot cider to that scene, and I’m a happy camper!
And even though Reverie is a worsted weight yarn, you could easily experiment with larger needles to get a looser, more relaxed fabric. The brushed halo allows you to work Reverie up at a flexible gauge, you’ll just want to avoid knitting this yarn too tightly in order to make the most of this yarn’s light and lofty characteristics.
I’m also drawn to the color palette – I love the deep jewel tones, especially when seeing them next to the softer and more delicate shades of neutrals and pastels. Of course I’m drawn to Hawk (the graphite grey) but a sweater in Potion or Cream would be lovely too!
The more I think about a cozy sweater for Reverie, the more I’m inclined to search out a pattern that has a loose, comfortable fit with a big cowl neck. The key for a perfect pattern match here is simplicity – too much detail or texture will be somewhat lost with the super soft halo of Reverie. This of course, in my mind, also translates into a fairly quick project as far as sweaters go (no cables or texture + worsted weight yarn = fast & fun!).
Do you have any good pattern recommendations for Reverie that might fit my dream sweater for the fall? I’d love to hear what you think!
