The Handmade Holiday Contest by Knit Picks

Have you finished your handmade gifts yet, or are you still working away, hoping to weave in those ends in time for Santa’s visit? We’re holding a contest to see your loved ones receiving your gifts made with Knit Picks yarn.

Just take a photo or video of the recipient and their gift, upload it to Instagram, and tag it with #knitpicksholiday. If you aren’t on Instagram, email your photo to podcast@knitpicks.com (yes, we know it’s not part of a podcast). After the holidays have wrapped up, we’ll pick a winner who will receive a fabulous “charm pack” of Knit Picks yarns.

In the meantime, let’s have a look at the handmade gifts of some Staffers here at Knit Picks! Emily has made her mom a seat cushion (above). The pattern is the “Spiral Seat Cushion” from this book, made in Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky in Delft Heather, Garnet Heather, Camel Heather, and Aurora Heather.

Stacey has made a cowl for her niece from her own Electric Alpaca Cowl pattern in Big Cozy Cobblestone Heather & Stroll Firecracker Heather. Her nephews are getting hats in red and black Brava Bulky. If you’re a pro like Stacey you don’t need a pattern – you just make them up as you go!

She also made a Bryant Park Vest for her mom in Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky in Forest Heather. Doesn’t it look so cozy?

I made a new sweater for my two year-old, and a dress for the baby. I’ve been loving this pattern (Ravelry link) for a while, and finally got around to making it. We’re now carrying the printed book full of so many great projects! The dress for my 1 year-old is from this pattern (Ravelry link), and will keep her warm during trips around town this winter.

The sweater is made from Swish Worsted in Honey, and the dress is in Wool of the Andes Superwash in Clarity. The colorwork is done with less than half a skein of Chroma. I wanted the color shift to happen a bit more quickly then it does in the ball of yarn, so I “abbreviated” it, by cutting the yarn and taking out some of the solid color yardage, making the colors change more quickly as I knit. I think it looks quite sweet!

We hope your handmade gifts are coming out just the way you wanted. We’d love to see them, and the reactions they get their recipients. You spent lots of time making them, so why not show them off? Happy Holidays, everyone!
