“Classic” Craft Books: A Book Sale Round-up

If you’re a crafter, you probably have a favorite book – one you’ve made things from over and over again, or turned to for inspiration time after time. Today, I’m going to highlight three books we here at Knit Picks just can’t seem to put down. They’re books that produce garments and accessories that illicit the age-old question, “What pattern is that?” Over and over they are patterns that come out of these books. To us, they’re modern classics, ones we believe you’ll love, too. With 40% off all books currently, perhaps you’ll consider putting picking one up. They never seem to disappoint!

Whether you have a very small amount of time for a project, or like something more long-term, you’ll find the perfect pattern in Joelle Hoverson’s Last Minute Knitted Gifts. From sweaters and small accessories to gorgeous blankets like the one above, the patterns in this book have made it a modern classic. There are simple projects to make in an afternoon and heirlooms you won’t want to part with. This book offers you everything you’ll need to see you through many years of future knitting.

If you’re a crocheter, you’ll love Simple Crocheting by Erica Knight. It includes techniques and projects that prove that you do not need to be an expert with your crochet hook to make beautiful things. There are lots of tips and tricks of the craft, and the images, bathed in neutral colors and soothing tones, will have you casting on for projects you never thought you’d make, but will make your environment really lush.

Of course, you can’t talk about classic knitting books without mentioning Elizabeth Zimmerman. Her books of amazing patterns with timeless construction are not just great to use, they’re so much fun to read! I love them all, but my favorite is a compilation called The Opinionated Knitter. Zimmerman is so clever and personable that she’ll have you connecting with the craft of knitting, and eager to reach out to others who have knit her patterns, and love their craft. I often think, while reading her books, “If only Elizabeth Zimmerman were on Ravelry!”. That would be amazing, wouldn’t it?

Trying a new book while they’re 40% off is so much fun. You never know, you may find one you’ll deem a “classic”, one you’ll knit patterns from over and over again. Do you have a current favorite? I would love to hear what it is!
