Clove & Spice Knit and Crochet Pumpkin Free Pattern

55532220

The rains are here and I know it’s time to start thinking about pumpkins, golden leaves and early frosts. My favorite pumpkin patch has started sneaking tempting images of ripe pumpkins into my Facebook feed and my Pinterest is filling up with October crafts (beeswax-dipped leaves, anyone?) so it’s definitely time to get my fall crafting started! To celebrate the cooler weather and changing seasons I whipped up a quick little pattern with instructions for both knit and crochet pumpkins.

Everyday is Halloween!

It’s October 1st, which means it’s my favorite month of the year!  Every since I was young, I’ve loved October – cooler days, falling leaves, pumpkin everything, and especially all sorts of spooky things to celebrate Halloween!  Whether it’s listening to an old favorite song, watching a favorite movie or visiting our local haunted houses, every October I’m ready to celebrate.

And a lot of our IDP designers have gotten into the spirit – check out some of these great patterns to get started on before the 31st shows up.

First off, the marvelous Joanna Rankin has several patterns that are perfect this time of year.

6 Ways to Wear the Capra Collection

The vision of the Capra collection is heirloom-knitting, creating the types of pieces that will have just as much place in your wardrobe today as it will a decade from now (or a decade ago!). Since we’re the sorts to get the inspirational ball rolling, we’ve assembled six looks using three different pieces from the collection: A lovely cabled cardigan, a classic scarf and a cleanly-bold pullover.

Dianthe Cardigan by Kathryn McNaughton
Worked from the bottom-up in uncomplicated stitches, the Dianthe Cardigan gets special elevation from diamond cables that run along the body and sleeve.

Garter Ridge Hat in Stroll Tweed

037_untitled20130824

About once a catalog cycle I hear myself saying “Oh… I should really make this one” as I hold up one garment or another from a pattern collection during a photo shoot. That list keeps getting longer and I find myself forgetting about them once the catalog mails and some gorgeous project photo catches my eye on Pinterest or Ravelry. This time however, I managed to mentally “earmark” the Garter Ridge Hat from the Light Basics pattern collection as a project that would make a a lovely hat for my dad.

Choose your own knitting adventure!

When I was a nerdy little kid (as opposed the nerdy adult I am now), I LOVED the Choose Your Own Adventures books! Remember those? You are the protagonist of the story and determine the outcome by making decisions every few pages or so. I ate these up in my elementary and Jr High years and was excited to learn that my nephew loves them too so I could pass them along to the younger generation!

Well, obviously, I’m not the only one who loved these books, as one of my favorite designers Lee Meredith has a brand new eBook based on them!

9 Ways to Wear the Reclaimed Collection

The first thing that struck me and my coworkers about the Reclaimed collection was how easily it could fit into our respective, varied wardrobes—which for us, means everything from yoga pants to mega-high heels. And isn’t that the true test of a successful handmade garment? Does it pass the “Will I Wear It” bar?

With that in mind, allow me to present nine interpretations of three gorgeous Reclaimed garments, as seen through the eyes—and real wardrobes!—of staffers Heidi (Art Director), Jenny K. (Multimedia Manager) and yours truly (Marketing Manager):

BLANK CANVAS:  Heidi says, “When the artistic bug bites, I like to don an outfit that awakens the imagination. Spunky red pants, the asymmetrical Calistoga tunic and a palette of freshly-squeezed paints are just the ticket for afternoons of delightfully messy creations.”

Say “HI!” to the New Stroll Tweed

stroll_Tweed_Glamour_SE13

Check out our new Stroll Tweed yarn! Once, a few years ago we had a yarn with the same name, however we’ve gone back to the drawing board when it came to the tweed nepps since then and I’m delighted to show you what we’ve come up with! I love the rich color palette we’ve chosen and the new natural-colored flecks. I love using the Stroll family for washable fingering weight projects (especially baby sweaters!) and Stroll Tweed. The minute we opened the box of our photography samples I grabbed a bag of the Indigo Heather (the prettiest purple-blue I’ve EVER seen!) and got to work picking out a pattern.

The Light Basics Collection is Truly Timeless

Oh how I LOVE Kerin’s new Light Basics collection. I can very clearly remember the minute we unpacked all of the knit samples in the office. As each garment came out we all reached out to touch the beautiful, springy fabric of each garment. I definitely gave the Light Basics Pullover an extra squeeze and even a little hug to with a big grin on my face because that Capretta (as I’ve said before) just knits up into SUCH A GORGEOUS fabric!

Each piece in this collection is designed to be a simple, easy to knit and timeless addition to your wardrobe.
