World Wide Crafting In Public

This Saturday, June 13th, is World Wide Knit in Public Day! How much do you knit in public? Whether it's in a coffee or bookshop, on public transportation or in the park, I always have my knitting with me, ready to be pulled out whenever I have a slow moment. I find that it's those couple of rows that I can get done here and there, that seem to make all the difference in keeping my projects on track. Suddenly, I'm done with them, and I've been less grumpy with train schedules and other annoyances in the process. Double win! We tend to open up the holiday a bit more than it's name suggests and refer it as World Wide Craft in Public Day! Whether you knit, crochet, or do anther craft, it's great to do it among others in a public place. You never know who you'll meet! This year, Knit Picks is holding what we're calling a "Knit Pick-nic" for Craft in Public Day. If you're in the Portland, Oregon area and want to join us for some outdoor crafting, we'll be in Sellwood Park (picnic area H). We'll have prize packs for the first 100 or so friends that join us, a meet and greet with local designers, and so much fun in general! You can find all of the details on the Knit Picks Facebook page HERE. If you're not in our area, we hope you'll craft in public where ever you might reside. Handmade items among members of your community - who can resist? (photo is from the Knit Picks Holiday Craft Party at West Elm, this past Winter)

Knit Picks’ Holiday Craft Party Recap

It was, quite literally, a dark and stormy night when crafters, friends, and Knit Picks employees met up at the West Elm in downtown Portland for Knit Picks' 2014 Holiday Craft Party.  Though a wind storm with gusts up to 74 mph was blowing through the area and quite a few lost power, West Elm glowed bright and warm. It was really an excellent night to stay in and make craft-tastic things with old and new friends.

A Year of Crafting in Public

I know it's officially Craft (Knit) in Public Week but you can find me doing something crafty while I'm out and about every day, 365 days out of the year so why limit myself to one week!? Unfortunately I don't always have someone along with me to document my craftitude so I thought I'd share some of my favorite craft selfies in honor of my favorite week!

Seattle Stitch N’ Pitch 2012

I make no secret of the fact that I love baseball - from April to October, my brain is filled with practically nothing else. While I've always liked baseball growing up, it wasn't until the last couple of years that I became completely obsessed with the sport (living in Boston when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007 will do that). And since I now live here in the Pacific Northwest, I've become a big Seattle Mariners fan as well - I've gone to several games at Safeco Field, and I watch as many televised games as I can during the season. But one surprising thing I've never done is go to a Stitch N' Pitch. Well this year I changed that! This year's Mariner's Stitch N' Pitch was less than a week after our beloved #51 Ichiro ran off to join the New York Yankees. But all us M's fans were determine to cheer on our team in their game against the Kansas City Royals. Arriving at Safeco, all the crafters were greeted by The Mitt with a special addition to it:
