Sock Summit Classes

Believe it or not, the only time I have ever taken a knitting class was at Sock Summit 2009.  And I only took 2 classes (you can see my write up here, my very first Knit Picks blog post!) So this time around, I decided to fill my schedule - I took a total of 4 classes, one each day, plus I attended Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's lecture as well.  I was very busy all weekend but it was a lot of fun (of course!)

Seattle Stitch N’ Pitch 2012

I make no secret of the fact that I love baseball - from April to October, my brain is filled with practically nothing else. While I've always liked baseball growing up, it wasn't until the last couple of years that I became completely obsessed with the sport (living in Boston when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007 will do that). And since I now live here in the Pacific Northwest, I've become a big Seattle Mariners fan as well - I've gone to several games at Safeco Field, and I watch as many televised games as I can during the season. But one surprising thing I've never done is go to a Stitch N' Pitch. Well this year I changed that! This year's Mariner's Stitch N' Pitch was less than a week after our beloved #51 Ichiro ran off to join the New York Yankees. But all us M's fans were determine to cheer on our team in their game against the Kansas City Royals. Arriving at Safeco, all the crafters were greeted by The Mitt with a special addition to it:

Escape from the office!

This past weekend, Hannah, Jenny C., Jenny K. and I all took a trip to OH to once again attend The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA).  This is the industry-only event held a few times a year for yarn and craft businesses to see whats new in the needlework community (including knitting, crocheting, weaving, needlepoint and much more).  We love to chat with local yarn stores who carry our needles (does your LYS?) and meet up with new shops interested in finding out more information.  It's three days of fun and I love attending (even though by the end of it have very little voice left).

Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival

We had a taste of summer weather this weekend so Kerin, Jenny K., Hannah and I all went for a scenic drive - which, of course, ended at the Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival.  None of us can resist pretty yarn & fiber! Photo of the Upstream Alpaca booth

TNNA Fun

So as I said last week, Alisha, Jenny & I all headed to sunny Phoenix for The National Needlearts Associate (TNNA)'s winter show.  It was so much fun!  Not least of which was the beautiful Arizona weather we got to enjoy.   But sadly, we weren't there for vacation - we were there to work!  First step was  to set up our booth for yarn shops to order needles & tools for their stores.

Roadtrip – TNNA!

So Jenny, Alisha, and I are all heading out to Phoenix AZ for TNNA!  This is a industry only trade show for retailers, wholesalers, designers, and other professionals in the needlearts community. You may remember our trip from last summer! We are all very excited to be attending, getting to meet local yarn stores from all over the country that carry our needles, meeting with designers we work with & getting to look at all the new product being offered.  What I want to know is what sort of new products would you like us to carry?  We've been expanding our accessories & tools recently but we're always on the lookout for new things to play with!

Fibery fun in the sun

Last weekend was the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival - a big favorite of those here at the office.  While Oregon has a lot of fibery festivals, OFFF is one of the largest.  Lots of yarn & fiber vendors and a lot of fun to be had. And Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day, so it was the perfect thing to do.  My mom even came up from Eugene to go with me, so it was extra fun! To the shock & horror of many of my coworkers, I don't spin and my yarn budget is maxed out this year from all the festivals & yarn shops I went to this summer so my main interest was looking at all the animals!  It's my favorite thing about OFFF.  I wish I had the means to have them, but I'm afraid my little house would not support something like an alpaca, :)

For anyone that lives in or around Portland, Oregon - we all know how lucky we are to be in the middle of such a crafty city! And here is just one more example - Andersen Fiber Works is holding a book signing party for My Grandmother's Knitting tomorrow evening! Not only will Larissa Brown, Chrissy Gardiner, Leigh Radford, Joan McGowan Micheal, and Stevanie Pico be there, but there will also be snacks and karaoke! Could it get any better?
