A Year of Crafting in Public

I know it's officially Craft (Knit) in Public Week but you can find me doing something crafty while I'm out and about every day, 365 days out of the year so why limit myself to one week!? Unfortunately I don't always have someone along with me to document my craftitude so I thought I'd share some of my favorite craft selfies in honor of my favorite week!

52 Weeks of Dishcloths #23 – Picnic Basket Dishcloth

A few months back, I was working on a crocheted hat as part of some charity knitting I was doing.  I said to one of my friends, this hat needs something.  That's when I learned how to do a ribbing in crochet.  I love it!  So when I went hunting for a pattern to use for this dishcloth, I ran into the basket weave pattern using the raised double crochet stitch that I used for the hat and thought perfect! I used Honeydew Dishie, which makes for a nice strong fabric.

Sophia Spa Cloth

Designing this spa cloth was definitely one of those times where the yarn tells you what it wants to become. I had been swatching away with different stitch patterns and nothing was quite right for this delicate and pale shade of lilac. Finally, I stumbled on a simple v-stitch pattern that used the half double crochet and I knew that this was the perfect pattern to pair with such a sophisticated shade.

Kitchen Collections – Crocheted Bread Warmer

A while back the Knit Picks team was given a challenge to create a pattern for the crocheted kitchen collection.  And so the Classic Kitchen Crochet Collection was born. I chose to create the Crocheted Bread Warmer. Since I'm crazy about bread and there's nothing better than warm bread or rolls, it seemed like the perfect choice for me! Kitchen Collections – Swirly Potholder

Last year we were discussing what sort of collections we would like to see and it was unanimous - we were all about crafting for the kitchen!  And since most of us both knit & crochet, we decided we needed two collections, so we came up with Classic Kitchen Crochet and Retro Kitchen Knits. I'm particularly excited - all the patterns are by the Knit Picks staff, including me!

Teal Swirl Dishcloth

Blankets are my favorite thing to crochet, and I rarely deviate from this chosen, sacred path. That is, until I realized that dishcloths are like mini blankets, with quicker turnaround!

Yep, it’s another Billow Blanket

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Billow for blankets of any shape and size? I am officially hooked! This is my second blanket that I've made with this bulky cotton and there are just so many reasons why I will inevitably continue to make more. Aside from Billow's supreme softness, I adore how the slight thick-and-thin nature of Billow translates in crocheted stitches. Plus, it's an excuse to whip out my hefty 6.5mm crochet hook! And that means lots of progress in short amounts of time, which is insanely satisfying when it comes to making blankets.

Étoile Crocheted Dishcloth

Designing for our 52 Weeks of Dishcloths has been such a wonderful excuse to revisit my collection of stitch dictionaries. I love pouring through these collections and experimenting with new stitches. This one in particular stood out to me - I loved how the cluster stitch resembled a star, but adding it against stripes created what looked like a flower or vegetable garden to me. I knew that I had found my inspiration for the next dishcloth.
