Many of us here are avid bike riders - it's easy to do, living in the Portland OR/Vancouver WA area! Each year, the city of Portland shuts down the 10 (now 11) bridges over the Willamette River for bikes to safely ride across for Providence Bridge Pedal. All proceeds go to health and wellness charities around the area, including a portion to fund concussion and neurocognitive testing, known as ImPact testing. Several of us have done it over past couple of years but this year, we put together the official Knit Picks team of employees and spouses - complete with cute shirts! All of us signed up for the 11 Bridge course, so this photo was after we rode between 30-35 miles in the hot sun and we're all a little giddy and sweaty! We had a great time, even with some course issues. |

Have you checked out our Cold Snap pattern collection? Inspired by chilly days by the river and whipping winds on the mountains, this collection of garments and accessories in winter whites and light and bright colors will have you casting on for knitwear you'll wear over and over again. For the collection photo shoot, Hannah chose a glorious day on the riverfront, where birds and boats waved hello as they passed (well, they didn't really wave, but, you know...). The idea for Tucked In, a collection of crochet afghans designed by everyone here at the office had me reaching for four of my favorite Wool of the Andes Superwash colors and immediately crocheting up a storm of test swatches before we even finished outlining the concept! After the first hour, I knew I wanted to do a mixture of granny squares and granny stripes, all that was left to do was to work out how Brass Heather, White, Clarity and Cadet would work together throughout what would become the Squares + Stripes Blanket. |

One really fun task I did this year was creating new yarn colorways. We started with Stroll Tonal, a super soft, washable treat for the feet. As a team, we decided on a set of new colorways, and then I mocked up our visions in my design program to send to our manufacturer. Lest you be fooled by the ostensibly simple process of picking colors, let me bring to your attention how surprisingly difficult it is to find a range of yellows that don’t turn either rusty brown or baby custard yellow at some point – or choosing greens that don’t morph into an enchanting snot hue. Our new Knit Picks mugs are here and I'm so thrilled with how they turned out! It was a long process to turn them from ideas and sketches into actual objects but ultimately very satisfying. Turns out it's really cool to drink coffee out of a mug you had a hand in designing, who knew? And it's always awesome to add some crafty love to everyday objects. I wanted to give you all a little peek into our process for designing these mugs. |

You've seen it all over your Facebook freinds, Twttier feeds and the news. Celebrities, sports figures and everyday people are taking part. It's the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - where you are are challenged to make a donation to ALSA.org and post a video dumping a bucket of ice water over your head. It seemed so silly at first, but has gained in momentum and the last total I saw was 90+ million dollars raised to fight ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig disease). This week, Knit Picks and the rest of the Crafts Americana team at Vancouver WA office were happy to take part, as ALS has affected members of our families. We made a donation for everyone who took part (22 staff members), along with personal donations. |

The Princess Pullover in the Heartwood pattern collection is hands down the most eye-catching garment in this collection of almost equally gorgeous knits. Once you've finished feasting your crafty eyes on each pattern, I want to draw your attention to the setting we've chosen for one of my favorite collections this year - the Leach Botanical Gardens here in Portland, OR. |
