In Bloom

In Bloom is our newest (gorgeous) spring collection, and I’m so thrilled that I get to talk a little more about it! There are fifteen light-weight projects ranging from the pretty little Flora Headscarf in Palette Bluebell to the super detailed lace weight Juliet Cardigan. There’s something for everyone in this collection and it will definitely be my go-to as I prep for warmer weather and clearer skies. IMG_5773

We spent the day in the wonderful main greenhouse at Cistus Nursery. I can’t say enough about how gorgeous it is out there. The nursery is situated on Sauvie Island – a little rural paradise just outside of downtown Portland and is full of some incredible plants. All this lush greenery provided the perfect backdrop for these spring knits (like the Cambria Cardigan) even though we had to photograph this collection on a super chilly, dreary December day.

The chilly temperature definitely started seeping into our bones by the end of the day and Amy, our photographer, wound up wearing more knits as the shoot progressed. Between shots we hustled the models back into their down jackets for a mini break as we reviewed the photos and scouted out the next shot.

Oh, and found some sweet kitties to pet! This guy was all about the bin of knit samples, he was pretty sure that the shoot was really all about his handsome self.

There were several times when the light was streaming in just so, the knit draped perfectly and we got the PERFECT shot like with the Water Lily Stole. Those moments definitely make my heart sing!

Anna was able to take the camera while we were between models and do a bunch of ambiance shots that feature prominently in the book. I love this stand of twisty bamboo!

The Windermere Lace Wrap is one of my personal favorites from this collection (such a dreamy knit in Alpaca Cloud) and has definitely found a place in my queue of projects.

What has caught your eye? Have you been making trips to your local plant nursery lately? Portland is finally blooming and climbing steadily into more mild temperatures, perfect timing for lighter knits. What projects are on your needles?

I typically prefer small projects such as socks and have yet to attempt a sweater, anything lace, or to use laceweight/cobweb yarn on tiny needles.

But that Juliet cardigan is so exquisitely beautiful that I am gushing and sighing. It looks whisper-soft, fragile and feminine, and might convince me to take a stab at a highly ambitious knit. Wow.

Is the hat the photographer wearing a possible knit picks pattern? I love the look of it!

Wow what lovely pics of the sweaters and shawls I can’t wait to order this book and start knitting. I for one was not a fan of cats for most of my life until my boyfriend got a cat quite by accident. He was injured and had to be on medication and he fostered and cared for Ceaser for the few weeks while on medication eventually keeping him for good when he got into a fight again with another cat. They had 12 years of love and affection before he lost Ceaser this past summer and I don’t think honestly that John would have survived without Ceaser after he lost both Parents. I have quite an appreciation for cats now myself and honestly can say I am growing more fond of them.

Oh how I miss Portland! Bought lavender plants out there to bring back to Indiana. This transplanted Duck is still knitting winter weight as it is still winter here!

Obviously the photo-shoot was about the buff long-haired cat…so where is his sweater and why isn’t he wearing it?
I loved the yoked sweater….will consider making that one.

The pictures are beautiful, but I don’t like cats, no matter how beautiful they are, and I am highly allergic, so to buy a book that has cats in it, I would NOT.

Irma- you do realize that the cats (and their hair) are not included with the purchase of the book, right?

I LOVE the pic of the bamboo! It would make a great pattern for a sweater/vest, afghan or needlepoint!

Such a contrast between how the photographer is dressed vs. the models. I bet they were freezing. 🙁

Down here in Texas we’ve got bluebonnets everywhere.

The Windermere lace wrap is just dreamy. Is that a picot edge? So elegant! The photos are dreamy as well – great work! Lastly, those cats are majestic. 🙂
