Top 5 Patterns of 2016

This time of year, many of us crafters are looking for some brand new projects to start for ourselves. So I thought I’d do a round up of our best selling patterns from 2016, both to inspire you and to see what your fellow Knit Picks lovers worked on this year!

#1 – Hue Shift Afghan

This is, by far, our most popular pattern year after year! And it’s easy to see why – it’s a super fun knit (those squares are just addicting) and looks gorgeous once complete. It’s also easy to switch colors or yarns for your own personal preference. The original is in Brava Sport and I’ve made a version in Mighty Stitch (which I LOVE). I’ve also seen versions in so many creative colorways – check out the projects on Ravelry!

#2 – Reflection Line

It’s also no surprise that Tetiana Otruta’s gorgeous shawl was a top seller! Using Chroma, this asymmetric shawl uses lace & stripes to create a fun project. But best of all, this pattern is so versatile,  you can make it as large or as small as you like, or even change it to a different weight of yarn. I can’t wait to see versions in our new Chroma Twist!

#3 Beachcomber Shawl

This beautiful shawl by Chelsea Berkompas features an easy to memorize lace pattern mixed with garter stitch sections. Since it uses CotLin, it’s perfect for warmer weather and gets softer every time you use it. Our own Jennifer knit up her version as one of her first knitting projects!

#4 Dish Towel Set

Like Hue Shift, this pattern is popular year after year! It’s a super easy but not a boring pattern, using 1 full skein of Dishie for the main color and a small amount of a contrast color for the stripes. Perfect for gifts or a good TV watching project, it’s really no wonder knitters are snapping up this pattern!

#5 Dealla Cardigan

Finally, we have the stunning cover pattern from our Celtic Journey collection! Designed by Cassie Castillo, this pattern is for cable lovers, featuring an eye-catching cabled medallion on the upper back, complimented by cable bands on the cuffs and  waistband. If you like a challenge, this cardigan is the perfect next project for you.

How many of these patterns have you knit up? While these were our most popular from the year, don’t forget that while these patterns may be our top 5, we have 1000’s of  patterns on our site, just waiting for you to knit up in 2017!
