Podcast 274: Tantalizing Tweed!

Knit Picks Podcast: Tantalizing Tweed; Wool of the Andes Tweed, Peruvian Highland wool and donegal tweed yarn; City Tweed, alpaca merino blend and donegal tweed yarn
A general favorite amongst the Knit Picks crew, we favor tweed yarns enough to carry four different varieties, including one of our newest offerings, Provincial Tweed, both sumptuous and hardy in Fine Highland Wool. Join Daniel and Stacey as we dig a little deeper than the typical “rustic” labels, explore some of the history and process behind tweed yarns, and discuss the differences between those that we offer.

Enjoy!

I am curious about the book you mentioned about the Highland Clearances, you said it was by John Preble?

The author is John Prebble! https://www.worldcat.org/title/highland-clearances/oclc/101435

My own descendants came to the US around the time the Clearances were happening, but it wasn’t until I read this book that I understood the significance of that. It’s a fascinating read, though probably a little partisan against England.

From the perspective of fiber history, it’s an interesting look into a problematic time for the history of English wool production, which played a significant part in the Clearances.
