Mothers Day Wish List

As a mom, or more importantly, as a human being in the modern world, I relish the opportunity to carve out a little time for myself to do whatever my heart and mind needs in the moment. Namely, slow down, stop obsessing over my never-ending to-do list, and just RELAX. We could all stand to take more gorgeous moments for ourselves to replenish and reflect, whether it be daydreaming about taking a luxurious cruise with the Fab 5 or just sipping some hot coffee on a quiet early morning while the rest of the house is still asleep. I’ll take whatever I can get. Bonus points if it includes plants, outdoor time, or Indian food.

But first, coffee.

My favorite time of day is when the coffee is fresh and the kitties are purring. Throw a little Nashville Skyline in the mix, and we’re talking about some heavy-duty mom time. This Sunday I aim to achieve my own personal treat yo’self trifecta with the addition of these delectable Strawberry Rhubarb Hand Pies. Carbe diem!

Time to Craft

Being able to shut the door to the outside world (both physically and metaphorically), turn on my favorite podcast, and get down to crafty business is one of my all time top 5 favorite things to do. “Me” time is the ultimate gift and it’s always the right size.

On my docket for this weekend is making a pair of curtains using some cute lightning bolt print fabric with a pom-pom fringe for my daughter’s room, and continuing to work on a Fade inspired shawl using several of our new Hawthorne colors (Brooklyn, Lents, Macadam, and Skyline so far) for moi. I’m so in love with these new colors and can’t wait to show them off!

Mother Nature

Part of my day will be spent taking my daughter on a “wildflower walk” at one of the most peaceful and serene places in the PDX metro area—Camissia Nature Preserve. There may or may not be some turn-of-the-century naturalist themed outfits involved. Girl loves costumes.

A lil’ Nightcap

It’s expected to be in the low 80’s in my neck of the woods this weekend, which is not necessarily my cup of tea. The upside to this PNW heatwave is that it will make the Grapefruit Pink Peppercorn Gin & Tonic (which also makes an amazing mocktail!) all the more refreshing. It will be the perfect thing to sip on whilst keeping up with the Targaryens.

As a mom, the first thing you learn is nothing goes to plan. So while I have seemingly created an outline for my perfect Mother’s Day, I know that the real joy will likely come from the unexpected. *Fingers crossed*

Cheers to all the mothers, parents, leaders, mentors, guardians, and caretakers of the world. We wouldn’t be here without you!

Motherhood is the biggest gamble in the world. It is the glorious life force. It’s huge and scary – it’s an act of infinite optimism.
