Meet Alexis!

We’ve made a few changes in the office recently and I’m pleased to introduce you to one of our newest Knit Picks team members, Alexis! For the past year Alexis has been working in our photography department and assisting on all the Knit Picks photo shoots but she’s recently moved upstairs to join our Purchasing Team. Now, instead of wrangling lights or photographing endless skeins of yarn, she’s placing orders for cool new tools and making sure we have all the great colors of Palette always in and ready to ship. We asked her some quick questions about her crafty background and her experience working here over the last year and a half!

Hi Alexis! Just how long have you worked here?
18 months, I can’t believe that’s it!

I know you have some crafty tendencies, what sort of crafts do you do?
Do well or attempt? Does cookie baking count? I’m a dabbler. I like to sew small housewares projects and bags, so many bags. And stockings, I have a thing for making stockings. Not bold enough to attempt to make clothes. One day maybe. I’m mostly crafty with my photos, converting them to cards and buttons. I have been doing a series called StoreFront Santas, you know, the painted Santas on store windows during the holidays. I’ve been shooting those for almost two decades now. I even converted some photos into a fabric and a friend made some potholders out of them in our grand collaboration!

Now that you work in the land of craft, what are you looking forward to learning more about or trying your hand at?
Everything! Really though, my knitting is still in its infancy, and I want to get better at that so I can actually make wearable things. Being surrounded by plush, squishy yarns all day is really driving that desire. Also I would love to master screen printing, and that little weaving loom you had in the other day looks like a ton of fun!

Was there something that surprised you when you started working here?
Besides working with actual people again, I worked pretty much alone the five years prior to working here, it was such a boost in the creative arm to be around so many multi-talented people! The interests are diverse and everyone seems to have their hands in so many different outlets. It’s super fun and I’m always learning about new crafts and other fun events, things to create, and do.

We are so excited to have her working with us all the time! I can’t wait to see what crafty adventures she embarks upon, we’ll be sure to check back in once she’s settled and has had some time to dig into some yarn. If you have any questions or want to welcome Alexis, go ahead and leave a comment below!
