Lovely to meet you!

Hi! I’m Emily, and I’m the new graphic designer here at Knit Picks. I’m so excited to be able to combine my passion for knitting and the handmade with my love for design. It’s incredibly inspiring to spend my days surrounded by yarn, needles, new patterns, and the creativity of my co-workers. It’s so inspiring, in fact, that in the short time since I’ve joined the team, I’ve already cast on for two new projects, and my to-knit list has gotten substantially longer!

I learned to knit when I was ten, and I was taught by my maternal grandmother. When she was younger, she was a prolific knitter, but arthritis had made it impossible for her to do the repetitive motions, so she taught me. My first project was an uneven, holey olive green rectangle and I loved it. I used to carry a project, usually doll blankets, with me everywhere, even to school, where my teachers were very surprised to see a sixth-grader knitting! My favorite projects are things I haven’t tried before, especially those with unusual construction techniques or a unique stitch pattern. I think wool is one of the most magical fibers in the world, especially in soft single ply or blended with silk or alpaca. My knitting falls into two camps: whimsical, decorative things like tiny stuffed animals, or practical, wearable items like hats, cowls, and sweaters, usually with just enough details to be special.
I can’t wait to share my knitting adventures with you all!
