Free Byzantine Dishcloth

Welcome to Week 37 of our Clean & Crafty Free Pattern series! Last week‘s pattern introduced you to an easier way to do intarsia, while this week’s dishcloth simplifies stranded colorwork with a beautiful design – check out the Byzantine Dishcloth.

This work of art by Erica Jackofsky makes use of slip stitches to create the design. Each row only uses one color – the pattern is formed by slipping a stitch from the previous color either in the front or back of the project. It’s a lot of fun – in fact, I’ve already knit this dishcloth a couple of times now. Making sure your yarn colors have a great deal of contrast will show the pattern off the best – we used Dishie in Clarity and Begonia, but mixing Swan or Black with one of the brighter colors like Azure or Clementine would look amazing too. It’ll be almost too pretty to use in the kitchen! But I’m firmly in the camp that dishcloths are meant to be used – plus, if it gets worn out, I can have fun making another one!
