Crochet Lion Square

With all the crocheting I’ve been doing recently, I’m very happy with this week’s Freebie Friday!

This adorable 8×8″ Lion Square is by IDP designer Maggie Menzel.  She originally designed it for the Knit A Square charity & kindly shared it with us!

This is a great project to practice your crochet skills as well a learn a new one – the loop stitch on the lion’s mane.  You can create a bunch of them, sew them up and have a fun little blanket for a little one – or for yourself!

Or mix & match different squares –  there are nearly a 1000 different squares to choose from, just on Ravelry alone!

Maggie used Wool of the Andes for her lions, which, with 100 colors to choose from, it’s a perfect yarn to use for such a fun project!  This would be a great pattern for Brava or for Swish for an easy care project. Or if you like to go big, try it in the bulky weight version of these yarns with a bigger hook for a larger square!

Maggie has been part of the IDP program for over a year now.  She has one lovely patterns so far – her Cable On the Side Mittens.

Knit with Swish Bulky, this a cute quick project to keep your hands toasty warm when the cold weather hits! Maggie also has a great mix of crochet & knit projects on her Raverly page as well.

Here are the direct links for this week’s patterns!
