Fibery fun in the sun

Last weekend was the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival – a big favorite of all of us here at the office.  While Oregon has a lot of fibery festivals, OFFF is one of the largest.  Tons of yarn & fiber vendors and a lot of fun to be had. And Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day, so it was the perfect thing to do.  My mom even came up from Eugene to go with me, so it was extra fun!

To the shock & horror of many of my coworkers, I don’t spin and my yarn budget is maxed out this year from all the festivals & yarn shops I went to over the summer so my main interest was looking at all the animals!  It’s my favorite thing about OFFF.  I wish I had the means to have one of them, but I’m afraid my little house would not support something like an alpaca, 🙂

I just love alpacas!  They are just so sweet.

We also saw some friendly sheep!  These guys let us pat their heads

We saw little cute fluffy bunnies…

And met some very funny (and photogenic!) llamas!

And well, it’s not like I didn’t buy yarn.

Oregon Flock & Fiber

Blue Moon Fiber Arts is one of my very favorite indie yarns so I always pick up some when I see them at shows.  It doesn’t hurt that they are local!  They had a big sale on “mistake” yarns so I bought two big hanks of Oversized Woobu (merino/bamboo) – it’s usually a DK weight but this ended up being more like worsted so it was highly discounted.  I got enough for a nice cardigan.  And I got a pretty mill end of Socks That Rock Heavyweight.  I have a lot of dark colors so I went with lighter colors this time!

And while this wasn’t directly connected to OFFF, the fairgrounds was also was host to an Irish Wolfhound gathering!  I love Irish Wolfhounds, so we had a lot of fun visiting with the sweet friendly dogs – and they were bigger than some of the sheep!

My favorite was this guy – I was actually trying to take a picture of one of the other dogs but he decided that I should take a picture of him instead:

We had a great time – it was a perfect way to celebrate what is likely our last summery day of the year!
