Rockin’ the Podcast

Woohoo, we hit 100 episodes today!

We’re all really excited about hitting the big 1-0-0, and reaching this milestone has really gotten us buzzing with ideas for future podcasts. Starting with Episode 101, we have a couple of new treats planned. We’ll still have all of Kelley’s lessons, interviews, book reviews, and personal knitting adventures, though, so don’t worry about your favorite bits going away!
If you’d like to help us celebrate, you can enter our contest right here. It’s an easy one! All you have to do is post a comment in the show notes for Episode 100 telling us your favorite podcast moment, and then we’ll pick a winner at random.
Thanks for listening! <

Entering the need-more-cozy-blankets season!

I don’t know about all of you, but our house is getting distinctly chilly. Flop-on-the-couch time is now preceeded by pick-out-favorite-cuddly-blanket time (which is sometimes interrupted by roll-dog-and-multiple-cats-off-of-favorite-blanket time).

I just finished a new throw blanket using a free pattern called “Missoni Inspired Chevron Blanket” (Ravelry link). Missoni is an Italian fashion house that is generally known for bold colors and geometric patterns, and this blanket pattern captures the Missoni flavor by interspersing black and white zig zag lines with the crazy off-kilter rainbow colors.

I choose Afterthought Thumbs!

Don’t Kelley’s mitten videos make you feel a little like you’re in a choose your own adventure novel? They’re so much fun! Some of you have already seen this video on YouTube, but for everyone else…

A few weeks back, Kelley was developing her outlines for the video series, and since I was knitting a pair of fingerless mittens for my sister, I asked her for a private lesson on Afterthought Thumbs. Her way of using the waste yarn to knit ahead and then purl back was quite a breakthrough for me (if you don’t know what I mean, stay tuned for her complete video on Afterthought Thumbs next week!) I’d been doing it another way, and I always get gaping holes around my thumbs. So I happily knitted ahead, purled back, and finished up the top of my fingerless mitten. And then I realized… I wasn’t sure what to do …

Cyber Monday update

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! Alisha posted last week to let you know we were going to be having our first ever Cyber Monday sale today. The sale is on! Over 400+ colors of yarn are 25-35% off. We did have some technical issues this morning and not all the yarns were showing correctly in this sale category. That has been resolved, and we’re really sorry for any confusion or inconvenience that caused.
We’re also sorry to say our web site is extremely slow today. The IT department has been scrambling to get it fixed, but our bandwidth is pretty maxed out so there’s not much we can do to resolve it. To make it up to you and make sure everyone gets a chance to shop the sale, we’re extending the sale until 11:59PM tomorrow (Tuesday, 11/30) to give you more time. Thank you for being …

Podcast Episode 40: Interview with Charlene Schurch

Charlene Schurch is the author of Sensational Knitted Socks and More Sensational Knitted Socks. Two of my favorite sock knitting books! What a treat to be able to talk with her about our shared love for sock knitting.
Note: This interview was recorded over the phone, so it was hard to control the audio quality for this week’s podcast.

Podcast Episode 41: The Many Shapes of Shawls

Lace shawls come in several shapes. These shapes aren’t just a question of fashion. Some are easier to knit while traveling and some are easier to knit because they are long strips of repeated lace patterns. Before you choose your lace project be sure to think about your knitting surroundings (traveling or staying home) and how you would like to use your finished shawl.
