This simple hat features garter stitch in the round, which creates a stretchy fabric that fit a wide range of head sizes. It can be made in a short beanie style or with a longer body for a super slouch – great for last minute gifts. Everyone could use a hat to wear in chilly weather!

I have made several of these hats over the years – in fact I made the sample in the images above in my favorite yarn Hawthorne Kettle! They knit up super quick and are a great project for a weekend of marathoning your favorite TV show. I wear mine all the time- it keeps my head warm but it’s light enough to wear all the time (like when I have bad hair day!).  It also squishes down where I can just throw it my coat pocket when I’m on the go.

This pattern really looks great in any fingering weight yarn – from solid to tonal to handpaints!  I’ve personally made versions in Stroll Handpainted (those stockinette lines break up any color pooling), Hawthorne (Multi, Speckle and Kettle), Preciosa Fingering and even a very special version in Capretta! It’s a great way to play with a new yarn – I’m already planning a version in our newest yarn, Chroma Twist. I can’t wait to knit up a colorful and unique version in a crazy colorway like Ferris Wheel!
